The 600 bhp racer from the Maranello stable was the Italian counterpart to the Porsche 917. At the 1000km race in Spa-Francorchamps in 1970 the no.23 driven by Derek Bell and Hughes de Fierlantraste - equipped with a 5-litre, V12 engine - finished in 8th place. Only 25 512S were built by Ferrari for the sports car class in 1970.
